The conference aims to explore a problematic and ever present issue in 20th century literature: the status of the self. It is through the forms of the lack of self, its processing, its negative or false forms, that the representation of the self emerges in the process of literary signification. The investigation of self-identity meets and cannot avoid the question of sexual identity (and of difference), but also different historical and geographical identities, the dominant and the mariginalised ones along with the languages they use to express themselves. The writings of the self, different in genres and styles, constitute our main field of investigation.

Il convegno si propone di esplorare un campo problematico e sempre presente nelle scritture novecentesche: lo statuto del soggetto. È attraverso le forme della mancanza, le sue elaborazioni, negazioni o false forme che la rappresentazione del sé emerge nel processo di significazione letteraria. L’indagine del sé identitario incontra e interroga l’identità sessuata (e la differenza), ma anche le diverse identità storiche e geografiche, quelle dominanti e quelle periferiche e i linguaggi che elaborano. Le scritture dell’io, differenziate per generi e stili, costituiscono per questa ricerca un elettivo terreno di indagine.
